Jabal Arafat (Arabic: \u062c\u0628\u0644 \u0639\u0631\u0641\u0627\u062a<\/strong>) is a small, granite mountain in the plain of Arafat, about 20km from the Ka\u2019bah. Standing at Arafat is a fundamental requirement of Hajj. Pilgrims travel here from Mina on the second day of Hajj<\/strong> (9th Dhul Hijjah<\/strong>). The mountain is also known as Jabal al-Rahmah, meaning \u201cMountain of Mercy\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meaning of \u2018Arafat\u2019<\/h2>\n

  • The common meaning of the word Arafat is \u2018to know\u2019.<\/em> After being taken out of Jannah and placed on Earth, it was at Jabal Arafat that Prophet Adam (\u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645) and Hawa (\u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645) met up again.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Arafah (\u0639\u0631\u0641\u0629) is the name of the day, and Arafat (\u0639\u0631\u0641\u0627\u062a) is the name of the land<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Importance of Arafat for the Hujjaj<\/h2>\n

    • Standing on Arafat is an essential part of the Hajj; whoever misses the standing on Arafat has missed Hajj, because the Prophet (\ufdfa) said:\u00a0\u201c<\/em>Hajj is Arafat.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong> [al-Hakim]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • The day of Arafat has many virtues, as was narrated in many Ahadith. Aisha (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0627)\u00a0\u00a0narrated that the Prophet (\ufdfa) said:\u00a0\u201cThere is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of Arafat. And on that day Allah draws near to the earth and by way of exhibiting His Pride remarks to the angels, \u2018What is the desire of these (servants of mine)?’\u201d<\/em> <\/strong> [Muslim]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          “There is none worthy of worship besides Allah, He is all by Himself, He has no partner, His is the Kingdom, for Him is all praise, He has power over all things. O Allah, make Nur in my heart, in my ears Nur and in my eyes Nur. O Allah open my chest (bossom), make my tasks easy and I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the chest, from disorganisation in working and from the punishment of the grave. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evils that come with the wind”.<\/p>\n

          • In another Hadith the Prophet (\ufdfa) said:\u00a0\u201cApart from the day of the Battle of Badr there is no day on which the Shaitan is seen to be more humiliated, more rejected, more depressed and more infuriated, than on the day of Arafat, and indeed all this is only because of beholding the abundance of descending mercy (on the day) and Allah\u2019s forgiveness of the great sins of the servants.\u201c<\/em> <\/strong> [Mishkat]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Fasting on the Day of Arafat<\/h2>\n
              \n
            • One of the virtues of the day of Arafat is that fasting this day expiates for the sins of the past and coming year. It was reported from Abu Qatadah that a man said:\u00a0\u201cO Messenger of Allah, what do you think of fasting on the day of Arafat?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>He said: \u201cIt expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>[Muslim]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • This (fasting) is mustahab (desirable) for those who are not on Hajj. In the case of the one who is on Hajj, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of Arafat, because the Prophet (\ufdfa) did not fast on this day when he was in Arafat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                \u00a0<\/div>\n

                Points of reflection at Jabal Arafat<\/h2>\n
                  \n
                • Jabal Arafat is a special place of Du\u2019a (supplication). The virtue of this place is in asking from Allah (\ufdfb) and the response is promised. Our beloved Prophet (\ufdfa) and Prophet Ebrahim (\u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645) made Du\u2019a at this very spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                • The pilgrims heart should filled with nothing but neediness; which is presented in heartfelt Du\u2019as. What better day to ask and we are the only losers if we don\u2019t take a share of the promised response from the Almighty.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
